Vocabulary
- Select a few words to learn from each book or from each chapter
- Use the context to figure out what words mean (look at the words and sentences around the word)
- Look at the word structure to figure out words (base words, prefixes, suffixes, endings, compound words)
- Use a reference source (i.e.: dictionary, glossary) and look it up
SIGHT WORDS (HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS)
Children should be able to read sight words without sounding them out. They should just be able to recognize them. There are many ways to practice learning sight words. You can practice finding the words in stories or write them on flashcards. You can read the words, play concentration, match them, or sort them. Below is a list of the sight words from Reading Street.
